Fair warning to all of my Mercyhurst friends, if you feel like you are re-reading this article, that is because you are. Recently I wrote this post for our fashion department’s House of Hurst blog which has been revived. I loved it so much that I could not help but share it on my site as well!
Even though Erie’s weather still feels like Christmas, spring is right around the corner! And with the budding flowers bloom all the trends of the season as well. From clothes to accessories that are both fashionable and functional, here is the roundup of what you should be wearing this spring.
If you are someone who loves neutral outfits but want to incorporate color into your wardrobe, pastel knits will be perfect for you. This season, stores have been taking it up a notch and pulling these fun shades into florals and stripes. Zara has the perfect floral cardigans that would dress up a simple white tee and denim jeans. Additionally, target has color blocked pastel cardigans in blue and pink shades that have even been shared by other brands, such as Kendra Scott.
And while we still have classes, this next item is perfect for carrying books, groceries, flowers, or maybe just your wallet if you opt for the designer ones. Canvas tote bags have seemed to once again made their appearance this spring, with more design elements than before. Of course, you can buy them at JoAnn’s to decorate yourself, but brands MONTSERRAT New York have designed ones that read “Burgers & Fries & Martinis” in addition to other casual yet classy sayings. The most popular bags are from Marc Jacobs, L.L. Bean, Longchamp, and, shockingly, Chloé. Most of us do not have a grand to drop on a canvas tote, so I know I will be sticking with my $15 etsy design.
Many influencers have been bugging for oversized sunglasses this season. While there have been a few specific pairs circulating, the 04mm tortoise shell seems to be most popular. Last season’s mom on holiday is this year’s model off duty. It feels a little like the mom jeans, a bit retro like your mom definitely wore them in college, but everyone will have a pair by July. Not only are they great for trendy eyewear, but they also double as the perfect headband as well.
The final trend is the oh so versatile corset top. Maybe it’s the second season of Bridgerton, or maybe it is this tops slimming figure, but everyone has seemed to have gotten their hands on one of these tops. They come in strapless to thick strap, having either a tie up, hook and eye, or even elastic (if you’re lucky). Most influencers have been sporting floral patterns on their trendy tops, in very romantic colors. TikTok star and FIT student Kate Barlett was seen wearing a white corset with dainty florals on her recent trip to Paris. A wardrobe and vacation both to be envied.
Whether you decide to indulge in all of these trends, or even just one, fashion is what you make it. So many stores carry these trendy pieces at a variety of price ranges so that you can still find those designer trends for an affordable price. If you are scared to try these fun trends this spring just remember, a new season is a new you and you can be whoever you want.
